High School

A Christ-centered culture of excellence for grades 9-12

Nurturing wisdom and a personal relationship with Jesus

High school is a significant milestone for young people. It’s a period when they’re discovering their skills and passions, growing into their own, and preparing for life after graduation.

If you’re seeking a closely connected Christian community where your teen can form lasting friendships, or you’re looking to transition them to a new environment that aligns with your family’s values, you can be confident knowing they’ll excel at Waterloo Christian School.

Your child will have every opportunity to thrive — academically, socially, and spiritually — while they work to identify their future goals. Thanks to our life-ready focus, students are equipped with the knowledge, skills, and experience to courageously and eagerly respond to God’s calling for their lives.

Here are just a few ways your son or daughter can benefit from our private high school offerings:

Strong Biblical Foundation

Your child will have the chance to discover their God-given gifts and develop the fruits of the Spirit, including love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. They’ll learn to stand for what is good and right, applying a biblical worldview to decision-making and promoting God’s word to others.

Engaging Extracurriculars

Our high schoolers are involved in a wide variety of activities, with most students participating in two to three programs, including band, choir, drama, and sports — such as cross country, football, basketball, track and field, golf, and volleyball. Through these activities, your child will develop confidence and personal responsibility. They’ll also learn to demonstrate kindness to others and be part of a community where they’re able to make impactful contributions.

Excellent Academics

Your child will benefit from Christ-centered teachers who love Jesus and their subject area. Additionally, everything we do has a connection to at least one of our life-ready outcomes. Ultimately, we are committed to developing critical thinkers who are able to demonstrate academic mastery and apply their knowledge to solve complex problems, evident through our average ACT score of 25.

Future Preparation

High school students have opportunities to earn college credits as well as take an entrepreneurship class in which they build and run a food truck, helping them develop creative, sales, leadership, teamwork, and communication skills. Additionally, we have a college, career, and calling director who meets with each student to help them figure out what might be the best fit for them after high school, based on their God-given talents and interests.

Helping students succeed today and tomorrow

We are committed to ensuring every student graduates from our school Life Ready. During their time at Waterloo Christian School, your child will learn to develop a strong internal drive and work ethic, view challenges as an opportunity to grow, and persevere even amidst trials. Here is an overview of how we guide students down the path that best meets their career and life goals.

9th Grade

Our freshmen participate in one-on-one college, career, and calling counselor meetings every semester. During this time, students learn what the steps following high school might look like for them and discuss interesting post-graduation opportunities. College scholarship options are also discussed.

10th Grade

At this grade level, students participate in one-on-one counseling meetings every semester to prepare for the PSAT. They also build out their extracurriculars in preparation for college applications as well as search for opportunities to complete college credit if they’d like, such as dual enrollment or AP (Advanced Placement) courses. This is also a time when our counselor helps students who are interested in playing sports after high school get their name out to potential colleges. In tenth grade students also take a “Life Ready” year-long course that helps them identify where God may have specifically gifted them. In this course, they also hear from and visit many different career options whether at a trade school or attending a university.

11th Grade

One-on-one counseling sessions each semester for juniors entail preparation to take the SAT and ACT exams. It’s also a time when students begin to tour colleges and start submitting applications for admission. Any steps that need to be completed to be considered for early acceptance are taken this year as well. Students who are interested in playing sports at the next level will continue working with their counselor to get their name out to potential colleges.

12th Grade

Senior year, students meet with their counselor each semester to get support with scholarship applications, college admissions, and any next best steps after graduation. Our counselors do their best to help them be considered for college acceptance and provide assistance with course registration.

Waterloo Christian school is hands down an amazing school.

The teachers and staff know how to push students to their full academic potential. Waterloo Christian School also teaches students important life skills and ethics. Students who graduate from Waterloo Christian School are fully prepared for the outside world from a Christian perspective.

Supporting their dreams and aspirations

High school can be a stressful season as teens begin to understand the long-term impact their actions will have on future goals. We guide our students through this time by:

Providing a nurturing environment

Your son or daughter will be surrounded by teachers who care for them beyond academics.

Building their faith

Your child will know who they are in Christ and establish healthy spiritual disciplines.

Encouraging accountability

High schoolers are held to high personal and academic standards that will carry them well through life.

Promoting wise decision-making

Students learn how their decisions will influence their life for years to come.

Fostering a healthy environment for learning and growth

Environment matters, and students in high school often crave a sense of community, safety, and stability as much as younger children. Our tight-knit fellowship is what you’ll grow to love about WCS. In fact, fewer than 100 high schoolers attend our private Christian school in Waterloo, IA, which sits on a 10-acre campus a short drive from Cedar Falls.
